Another day, another round of breakout rooms!

Steve Robinson of Si Consulting and I were Zooming again yesterday. This time we were aided and abetted by Paul Mohan, whose skills gave the workshop an added dimension – always good for keeping engagement high.

This was the fourth in a series for senior managers with Steve’s client Network Rail.

Steve delivered his content, and I played a supporting role by monitoring the chat, setting up the breakout rooms, screensharing and being on hand to deal with any technical issues.

Paul offered valuable insights, role plays and was someone for Steve to ‘bounce off’.

The topic was Difficult Conversations. We all need to have them from time to time!

Steve has developed a great knack for taking content that would work in a face-to-face setting and re-working it for the virtual arena. The trick is not to lose sight of your end goal.

❓ Why are you running the workshop? Who are the participants, and what do you want them to get out of it?

❓ What are the learning objectives, and how will you measure them?

I often consider myself fortunate – privileged even – to hear such great content during my line of work.

Yesterday was one of those days.

My biggest takeaway from today’s session? When having a difficult conversation, do you want to be right, or do you want the right outcome? If you win, the other person loses, and this could be significant if you need to preserve an ongoing relationship.

If you run online workshops and would like to chat about having a Zoom co-host, don't hesitate to contact me. Let's just have a chat and see where it takes us!
